Southern California 2023 Container Drayage Rates Survey Report

ontario-ca-warehouse-with-trucks-at-dock

The Southern California container drayage industry in 2023 experienced a 40% drop YoY in import volumes through the San Pedro Bay Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Last year many operators were charging a Marine Terminal Congestion fee of $150 per container, which is not in place this year. Fuel cost increases required companies to increase fuel surcharges from 30% in 2022 to 40%. The drayage companies we spoke to are keeping rate increases around 5-10% or less. We continue to see a long-term trend of private equity and international 3PLs acquiring SoCal container drayage companies.
