Southern California 2022 Container Drayage Rates Survey Report

Maersk truck with container

The Southern California drayage industry was seriously impacted by COVID-19 and the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach supply chain meltdown. In addition to the supply chain chaos, prior to these events, the industry was thrown upside down by State of California AB5 legislation and court decisions where drayage companies lost majority of court decisions forcing them to either switch to employee drivers or have some drivers leave and become independent drayage company operators. In addition to these events, there were several drayage company acquisitions which impacted certain segments of the industry.

Based on our experience in conducting Southern California container drayage rate surveys over a 7-year period during the last 3 years we have seen a significant increase in Accessorial billings (e.g., driver delay time, empty container re-direct, demurrage & detention fees, etc.)
